How to turn your pc into a phone. Please help...?

Okay. I want to turn my Laptop into a phone. I use a telephone wire into my Laptop. I don't want a online server, only if i can also use my telephone line with it. I want to Dial, recieve and Hold calls with my Laptop and my Telephone wire.
When Held calls are being on Hold, I want ti to play music. I want it to play music, but the music should come with the program.

Any Programs?
I want to use my telephone cabel(wire) and want to make, receive and hold callls.
Any way I can?

If you need more details ask, then look back in a few minutes, and repost your answer.

Thanks,
Billy Rowe

well, there are three different way to do it, and I can see you don't want any of the two!!!

1. Broadband (VoIP) is a paid service provider! the easiest!

2. any SIP provider, free/paid anyway you wish!

3. its also free, but you gotta have and phone/computer interface ( expensive) and the software to go with it ( expensive)!

you will find many options to purchase booth on the Internet, just google it...but it just cost to much....the coolest provider I know, its a softfone, with webcam, conference calls, call recording and fee if both parties have it downloaded....

In order to do this, your laptop modem where you connect the landline must be a voice modem that is TAPI (Telephony Application Program Interface) compliant.

There numerous application that will allow you to use your laptop as a phone to make and receive landline telephone calls. One example is the AmTapi Telephony Control (Professional Edition) 1.0

AmTapi description:

"Use AmTapi Pro to make and answer telephone calls. It supports multilines, call progress, caller ID, and DTMF tone detection and generation, and detects SIT tones and silence. Place calls on hold, transfer calls, enumerate the installed telephony line devices and phone devices, translate the telephone number according to the user's settings in the Windows dialing rules dialog, plus much more. AmTapi Pro is suitable for use with any TAPI compliant telephony board, PBX, or voice modem and can be used in conjunction with SAPI for telephony text-to-speech and voice recognition. AmTapi Pro can also control speaker phones, headsets, and conventional telephone sets if supported by the underlying telephony hardware. Build computer telephony integration systems (CTI), interactive voice response systems (IVR), voicemail, audiotext, automated attendants, and so on. AmTapi can be used in conjunction with AmWave to play and record voice streams, or AmComm to send and receive data streams. It's a light-weight ATL control written in C++."

Well if you don't want to have a server provide free PC calls, like yahoo-messenger-voice etc. you can download SKYPE and use it free for PC to PC calls provided you have the equipment ie; mic & speakers (bare minimum equipment).

But if you need to recieve & place calls to regular phone lines it will cost you a nomenal fee (very inexpensive & prepaid is available)

That telephone dialler you undergo in recommendations from 10yrs in the past nevertheless exists in dwelling house windows XP. you will discover it at C:application FilesWindows NTDialer.exe. on the different hand, merely click 'commence' 'Run' and form 'Dialer.exe' and click 'ok'. You do could have a 56K modem put in and plugged into the 'telephone' port on a DSL clear out. you would be able to could plug your headset immediately into the modem's 'Mic' and 'Line out' factors.
