My telephone land line has been tested and all internal wiring sockets are tested ok but I can only use local dialling with digital equipment (message says number dialled not recognised). I can dial area codes ok using old analog equipment.

You need to check your service provider for the type of switched services they offer in your area, sometimes, in rural areas pulse switches are used which will not accept signals from a 'Touch-tone' phone. Check if you have a setting on the phone for pulse and tone.
A digital phone still sends and receives signals that are based on pulse code modulation, electrical.

You dont mention what digital equipment you are using. There is something called least cost routing which a phone system and some phones can use which basically routes calls depending on the numbers called. The reason l mention this is because it would typically insert a prefix such as 162 before a national code to route national calls via a certain exchange for cheaper calls. Normally they dont route local calls at all and if the line isnt provisioned you do get the not recognised message. Look under LCR on the equipment. Hope it helps.

The telephones convert the analog (Voice) into digital and sends via cables and returned returned to analog to hearken to the unique voice. the priority in analog is what you suggested is the flow.......Like clever the pc and the printer are related....to my understanding the printer is likewise digital. So there is not any subject in moving the digital information between the pc and a printer.
