How can I dispose of used land line phones that no longer work?

All of the phones in my house recently stopped working, or you could hear a lot of static on the line to the point where you could not hear anyone talking. We bought new phones and they work, but where can we get rid of our old phones? Is it alright to throw them in the garbage?

Try www.greenphone.com and see if they will take them. They take all cell phones..

Yes - I will use it for a long time to come - the package deal I have with my provider gives me free land line calls all over Australia for as long as I like and I can call any mobile hosted by the same provider anywhere in Australia free for as long as I like (could be 6 hours if I want) and 20 gig cable internet a month for $99 and no line rental! I know of 1 person who is trying to get everyone on VOIP but thats because they have it but nobody else they know does - I havent looked into it for much the same reason - I dont know anyone with it so it would be worthless to me right now I dont think land line will be going anywhere in any great hurry

Yes, just toss them in the garbage. You could call the EPA and receive 500 pages of instructions on how to properly dispose of them at a price tag of about 600 dollars a peace. You decide. Only one thing bothers me. I don't know how many phones all went bad at the same time. One I can see. But if several all go bad at once maybe its not the phones at all.

If your phones do not contain batteries (typically, corded models), you can just toss them in the trash. However, if your phones contain batteries (typically, cordless handsets), your best bet is to remove the batteries from the phones prior to throwing the phones away. Then, just take the batteries to your local office supply store. Most have bins for recycling batteries. While there's no guarantee that those batteries will actually be recycled, at least there's a chance they will be.

while it is possible for all your phones to go bad at once, i had a customer who had all 5 of his phones go bad when verizon connected a break down to his line while doing repairs on the line...

it is however more likely that one of the phones is defective..

throw the phones in the garbage... or bring it to best buy if you are a tree loving hippie

nothing toxic I guess except plastic which will take a couple hundred years to decay. Maybe someday someone will dig one up and think they found ancient relic.
