Hi i am 14, and for Christmas last year i got a phone. Its a nokia xpressmusic, and i like it but i am always dropping it, because its so small. Its also hard to text the keypad is to small and i am always pressing the wrong button, sense i am a teen i am always texting so this problem is always getting in the way most of the time.
For my birthday i got $50, and i was planing on buying a new phone with the money my friend got a blackberry at walmart for not that much, but i thought that you had to get a new plane to get a new phone, so is there a way for me to get a new text friendly phone (hopefully a music phone) that i can get in stores for my price range?

Your cell service provider is always happy to sell you a new phone. You can get one at any time, without having to get a new plan.

However, you will have to pay more for the new phone than if you waited for the expiration of your current contract, then got the phone with the renewal. When you renew a contract, then you get a discount on the phone.

You may not find a non-discount phone for less than $50. But, go to your cell service web site. Most of them list all of the available phones and the cost. Sometimes they sell reconditioned phones for less.

Most cell providers, Verizon, Sprint and so on, have certain phones that work with their network - so a third party phone from Walmart may not work. Check with your cell phone service provider first.

Good luck.

nokia xpressmusic = t-mobile if i am not mistaken....

tmob is a GSM carrier, so all you need to do is get a new tmob phone and change your SIM card... you can do this with out even contacting tmob...

you can purchase a pre-paid tmob phone http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/prepaid.aspx and just put your sim card into it... or try to find a used tmob phone on craigslist or ebay...

you can see if you are eligible for an upgrade from tmob so that you can pay the subsidized price for a new phone... but you would have to extend your contract... if not you would have to pay full retail for the phone...

you can get any GSM phone (tmob, att) as long as it is unlocked...

Switch your phone off at the airport, put it into your carry on bag and unless they decide to examine the contents of your bag you will not have a problem. Do not put it in your bra, that would be asking for trouble, put it into the bag.
