when they call, and you have discovered it's a prank call, stop talking and then don't hang up for a few minutes. they will move on to a new number

I have to say I have had a caller ID on my home phone since they were first available many years ago, and I have noticed a tremendous reduction in the number of prank calls or "hangups". I have heard the same from others who have caller ID so I think it certainly is an effective deterrent to crank calls.

Block out the number that is calling you from. Or, you can get the caller ID and block unknown callers, because i have had a hsare of prank calls and i found it most effective.

The most effective way is to install a caller id machine and then require that everyone reveal themselves to you.
That way when the moron calls you will have his number.
There are ways to get another number to appear than your own when calling other people.
If all else fails you can program your phone to no longer accept calls from that number by dialing like *34 ( not real)

Caller ID, or you can do what I used to do when telemarketers called (this was before no-call lists), I kept a lous whistle by the phone and when they identified themselves as a telemarketer, I let it blast. This worked with prank calls and hang-ups also.

Get a caller id and then call them back and let them know it doesn't work anymore.
