1) You are not going to get "electrocuted". There is enough voltage to give you a good shock but nothing to electrocute.
2) The fastest way to check a wall jack is to get a STANDARD old telephone that plugs directly into the wall, not a wireless phone. Plug it in and see if you hear dial tone. If you do, the jack is working.
3) I'm guessing now, but I think you may have broadband service. High speed service provided by the cable company or the telephone company. This service works at speeds above the 56kb/s range of a wall jack.
4) If you do have broadband service then all you have to do is plug the USB cable from the printer into the computer. Windows will find the printer. Set it up to run in FAX mode. You may have to install the drivers for the fax and scanner. These drivers are on the disk that came with the printer. Once they are installed, you should be to print, copy scan, and fax with out any problems.
5) Naturally, if you can't get the fax to work, ask your Dad. You'd be amazed at how proud they are to help you.
If I am wrong about you having high speed broadband service or high speed DSL service, please let us know because you must install the drivers in a set order to get a fax machine working on a Plain Old Telephone System (also known as a POTS circuit).
