VOIP problem, VERY weird.?

Question

I have a VOIP phone line. I could perfectly make calls with it.. but am unable to call in. I used my cellphone to call in and I hear the ringing tone, but when i answer with my VOIP phone, I hear the dial tone.. just as if the call never went through.

Anyone know what could be the cause of this problem? Possibly the provider? blocking call ins but not call outs?

no,,,,,not weird at all! its the world of VoIP....anything can happen!!! and at any time!!!



unplug everything, do a hard reset of all you equipment......wait a few minutes....then connect everything again! try again!!



see if that works, most of the time its will do the trick!! if not its on the providers end.....go and log on there website and see if they have a maintenance posted!!

These kinds of VoIP problems are typically caused by firewalls blocking crucial "ports" required for VoIP communications.



You need to know what ports your VoiP provider requires for service.

Then, you need to know how to port forward all required ports through your router to the ATA phone adapter box.



If your ATA is a separate box from router, then easiest test to confirm port blocking is to put the ATA in DMZ zone of router. When in DMZ, no ports are blocked and that will confirm if port blocking is the issue. Once you confirm that port blocking is the issue, then you just need your VoIP provider to tell you which ports must be open or "port forded" to your ATA box. Often the VoIP service will have FAQs that explaing which ports must be passed through for best operation.
