What is causing that clicking sound every time I push a button on my landline phone?

Both my landline phones make this clicking sound when I start pushing number buttons or * and # buttons. It's not the dial tone causing me problems, and the ringing is just fine. I can also hear well too when making calls.

My problem is when I actually start dialing. So, for example, say i dial "3925". When pushing the buttons, I'll hear 3 individual clicks, a pause, 9 individual clicks, a pause, then 2 individual clicks, a pause, and then 5 individual clicks. Then it just rings like normal. It's annoying because whenever I need to make a phone call that requires me to push buttons to reach a person for customer service or something, it never works!

For example, say I want to pay a cable bill or cell phone bill bc it's been shut off and I want to speak with someone, I have to drive out to a store and speak with them (or go online on a chat for cable) bc I cant do it on the phone.

how do i get rid of this clicking??!!?

You must have an old phone; time to upgrade.

Your phone is set for 'pulse' dialing... Look for a switch that says 'P' or 'T'.. You want TONE dialing, or you will get the clicking each time you press a number..!

You should first check to see if your phones have a switch labeled tone and pulse. Your phones are using pulse currently when they should be using tone so if they have that switch it needs to be set to tone. If they don't have a switch for that then they will need to be replaced.
